SATCHMI VINYL DAY 2015 / HEAR THE BANDS, HOARD THE VINYLS!
I must admit I don't own a vinyl yet, more so a player. But hey one doesn't necessarily have to own some to attend and enjoy it. Perhaps this can even trigger your interest, coz it sure did mine! How? Read more :)
Entering the oasis of vinyl and bands in the so- called dessert that is Fort Bonifacio, I instantly noticed the cool booths of sponsors giving away free liquid nitrogen ice cream or float, free cold drinks, and even your Polaroid photos printed (also) for free; while the rest are for sale like Satchmi items and CDs from some of the event's performers.
Not only that, each registrants was also given a raffle stub wherein the very lucky winner will receive a Motorino player! Wow!! Good thing that the winner actually listens to vinyl records, and even bought a Smashing Pumpkins album that night, good choice lady!
Satchmi also launched their #MakeItYours campaign which features UV print stickers you can use to personalize your Motorinos :)
And of course the star of the event, the vinyl hoarding! Yes, you can buy as many records as your paycheck can handle with the overwhelming discounts on sale: 40% off on indie; 30% off on vintage; 20% off on the new records; and also 20% off on Motorino! Taylor Swift's 1989 was actually a best seller! Yup, the crates for Pop records were almost emptied than the other genres.
It's definitely an 'ukay ukay' affair for music enthusiasts as they dig into the numerous crates of vinyl records. But unlike 'ukay ukay', these goodies are brand new sir!
To solidify the whole experience for the music filtered crowd at BGC, different bands performed from afternoon to midnight celebrating the limitless circle of non digital recordings!
Event hosted by the Jam 88.3 DJs. |
I don't have photos of some of the performers (ugh, BP Valenzuela, I missed it!). I came around past 7pm already coming from a super late lunch just around Makati. Later in the evening we left the venue for a Jamba Juice break but hurriedly came back after hearing The Diegos being introduced hahaha.
All loud cheers when Ang Bandang Shirley came on stage and played some of their latest tracks. Noticeably they have always been a crowd favorite!
And the wacky scene backstage. I just really love Kai Honasan :))

It is my first time to watch and hear Imago live with their new vocalist Mayumi Gomez. Hmm, I'm not really sure what I felt towards it. But I sure still remember the Aia De Leon days of the band! Oh well, gotta keep up with the changes.

Then comes the duo I've been waiting for! Diego Mapa and Diego Castillo, popularly know as The Diegos, amazed me with their live and clean beat matching.
Switching turns to the needle, both brought their vinyl collections and played tracks from classic Beatles to Francis M's 'Meron Akong Ano'.
Crowd went wild as Cheats performed "Accidents"! It was so much fun watching the whole band jump and play around the stage, while we altogether shout and sing "Calling out the animal, the animal!"
I can't help but smile staring at the newly married Jim Bacarro and Saab Magalona, such a rockin' perfect pair! (medyo nainggit ako haha)
Ending the music fest is the much awaited Pedicab, with Diego Mapa again on stage as the band's lead vocalist. It was a pretty good final act with almost everyone not leaving until Pedicab's turn. The band didn't disappoint, giving us all out performances of some of their hits like "Simulan Mo Na" and "Otomatik".
It's the "Cheats couple" (parang panget pakinggan? LOL) Saab and Jim watching Pedicab :) |
With another successful Satchmi Vinyl Day, there is no doubt it could be a yearly event not just for vinyl listeners, but also for everyone who appreciates music in any form. An indication that despite today's music technology, the genuine experience of live bands and vinyl records, will still prevail for many years.
