HIPHOP OPM CEBUANA ARTIST KARENCITTA AKA K.SEA'S "SO HELP ME GOD VOL.1"

Her songs reminded me back when I was still listening to Chill, another female OPM rap artist from many years ago. I am glad Karencitta or K. Sea was able to share to me her first ever project "So Help Me God Vol. 1" mixtape. Most of it being laid back making it easy for me to discover the whole playlist even as I work.

Karen Ann Cabrera or Karencitta's born in Sydney, Australia and lived in L.A., where she also landed a lead role for the feature film "The Funny Man".

In between her other passion, the 20 year old artist also became busy with her first music project "So Help Me God Vol. 1" which features Alex O & Rjay Ty of LDP & other international artists. Loonie is supposed to be part of the mixtape as well but they postponed the song for another project.

SHMG Vol. 1 is her first music project, and she had the most unique experience of cultivating it by cyber-collaborating with Jim P. of Artifice Records & The Bakery. Karencitta also shared that 90% of the writing process was done in her car while stuck in Manila traffic. Well that's a perfect testimony to the traffic situation! Lol!

Aside from Jim producing beats on the tape, he also mixed and mastered all tracks through cyber-collaborating with Karencitta -- he was in Manila while she was in LA. She added: "The challenge was fuelled but for the love of music, of course we had to make it happen."

Karencitta's objective is to "revolutionize hiphop / rap music in the country, and as an artist I feel obliged to shower the world with art".

Her main influences are Kendrick Lamar and Amy Winehouse. Hmm, that combination sounds like a unique track itself.

As for the theme of her mixtape "So Help Me God Vol. 1", she wants to give the listeners the freedom to make their own conclusion or interpretation of the songs. Although she named the project "So Help Me God" since she made it in a time of deep calling from God.

She then elaborates the track "Oblivion": "It is about heartache. I feel like "caring for someone" is rare and if they do care, it's only when you die. It's just human nature. We get so caught up with our own life that we forget about our family, friends, children and even strangers around us. In the 2nd verse, it's my advice to a young girl about love, about friendship."
