WILDERNESS RELEASES MUSIC VIDEO OF MODERN KUNDIMAN "PASAWAY"

Wilderness, most known for their robust performances of psychedelic rock numbers, releases music video for Modern-Kundiman song “Pasaway”. The two-day shoot was located in Director Lumbera’s hometown where the members embarked on an expedition through the thick woods and sprawling rivers of Balete, Batangas. It was directed by Gym Lumbera and, hello HS sophomore classmate, Malay Javier!

I never thought a place in Batangas can haunt me, at least on screen. And by haunt I meant not the spirit kind, but the unexplainable feelings that recur to your familiarity, much to its video and calming story telling. Kung hugot at hugot lang, walang sinabe ang lyrics ng mga bagong banda! Wait till the end of the video and read the lyrics, saksak!

The song “Pasaway” is a tale of betrayal where a romantic relationship ends in recounting of sweet memories gone bitter. Although the song is of tragedy, the two directors' aim was to depict a triumphant yet unconventional love story through the devotional act of ushering the dead into the after-life. The pilgrimage culminates in a cathartic celebration where death is embraced as the pinnacle of life.

I appreciate the novelty of the music video. How it transcends your emotions and imagination as you follow their trail from daylight to (and most especially) dawn. It's inexplicably creepy and trippy at the same time. Last time I felt like this on a music video was with Ylvis' "The Fox" (What Does The Fox Say?), which happens to be in a forest too.

The band's energetic and bombastic percussiveness is highly infectious and will indubitably start a craze on any dance floor. Blended with psychedelic sound-waves, Wilderness will escort you to dimensions and landscapes that transcend the conscious realm.

Aside from creating a ruckus around Metro Manila and in various cities like Cebu, Iloilo, Baguio and Angeles -- Wilderness has also traveled to Japan to rock 5 shows in the Tokyo Music Week 2011. The band headlined a 3-day tour in Bandung, Indonesia mid-2012 and was received by the audience with the same vibe the band dished out -- exuberance and triumph.
