WHERE: TYA BAR AND RESTAURANT / A LINK TO A DECADE OF GOOD MUSIC

Since Throwback Thursdays bring us back to our old photos, my first WHERE entry this Thursday would be a bar that brings us back to good 80's to 90's music.

Established in the 1980s, Ten Years After Bar and Restaurant became a favorite night spot in the 1990s until early 2000. They have branches in Malate, Sgt.Esguerra St. and St. Francis Square until it closed.

The same people behind Ten Years After revived it last 2009 at the exact St. Esguerra branch where they used to be and named it T.Y.A. Bar and Restaurant. Needless to say, T.Y.A. is obviously short for Ten Years After.

Since they started in the 1980s, they sustained the music they played from that decade and gave it a modern kick. It was my friend who told me about this place before and got instantly curious upon learning that they play remixes of 80-90's hits.

Although they play music from decades ago, the place actually holds a modern black and white interior complete with the island bar and flat screens. Among their specialties are crispy pata, their When In Rome pizza topped with shrimp, cheese and pesto, and sisig. They serve local and premium beers, as well as your favorite cocktail drinks.

TYA Bar is best for yuppies and after work chill out. Ms. Mary-Ann Catharina Herrmann, the bar's manager told us that some of their customers from the original Ten Years After bar still even go to the new one!

The only bad thing about the place though, that may be a big one as well, is their parking space. It was a struggle looking for a decent space along the narrow street with rude "parking boys" to outsmart.

Although the place is perfect for the 80's crowd, younger folks can also drop by if you enjoy older hits because they mix it to today's beats still making everyone dance and sing at the same time. Also, DJ would play some modern RNB music upon the ladies' requests every Thursday's happy hour. I would actually suggest this place for an all girls gimmick night, trust me the crowd's fun here! I even remembered being distracted by The Wonders' "That Thing You Do" while talking to Ms. Herrmann!

They're planning to branch out hopefully soon after they find a perfect location. So if you're tired of the usual club / bar mixes and whatever decade you were born, everyone is welcome to dance down memory lane at TYA Bar and Restaurant!
