SONGS FOR TYPHOON HAIYAN / YOLANDA - THE MUSIC OUT OF TRAGEDY

The whole world heard about the tragic typhoon Haiyan / Yolanda. The whole world heard both good and bad stories from survivors, volunteers, the government, international relief efforts, media, etc., we all heard about it.

Now it's time that we hear the music inspired by these stories. Discover how music can heal and unite the resilient Filipinos.

Here are some of the songs written, dedicated, donated and produced as relief to the losses we had no control of:

Written by R&B songwriter and music producer Andrew Lane and featuring local and L.A. talents like Daniel Curtis Lee, Filipino talents Matthew Parry-Jones and Maria Fernandez to name a few. Strong is about getting up again as one's self and as a community.

Smart together with its digital music store SPINNR released a cover of the Celine Dion & Andrea Bocelli song "The Prayer" featuring 23 of the country's best performers. Every download of the song on SPINNR will go to the Philippine Disaster Recovery Foundation’s Help.PH.




WE ARE THE WORLD FOR PHILIPPINES - Various Artists



Michael Jackson's hit "We Are The World" was performed by various artists for the Haiti earthquake in 2010. Now a new version of the song was made for the Philippines' typhoon Haiyan which reminds us of all the help we're continually receiving from the different countries all over the world. It was all made possible by Tatsuo Productions, Sapphire Productions and Evolution. 


MAGKASAMA TAYO SA KWENTO NG PASKO (PAGBANGON VERSION) - Various Artists



ABSCBN's Christmas station ID's latest version dedicated to typhoon Haiyan is written by Robert Labayen, music by Bojam De Belen, Jelli Mateo and Thyro Alfaro. It shows footages of the typhoon, volunteerism, artists performing wearing their "Tulong Na, Tabang Na" shirt, few clips from the network's benefit concert for Haiyan and a tearjerker ending.




PAGBANGON - Julie Anne San Jose



Composed by Edward Mitra and lyrics by Joseph Saguid, GMA's Pagbangon is one of the network's way of extending help. All proceeds of this song will go to the survivors of Typhoon Yolanda through the GMA Kapuso Foundation.




"SOS PHILIPPINES" THE SONG AFTER THE STORM - Students from CHJ and UPV (Iloilo and Miagao), UPV Choristers



Former member of the Ateneo College Glee Club, Armand TJ is responsible for the music and lyrics of this song that is slowly gaining popularity among netizens. Those from other country even made their own cover of the song already.

Kuya Kurt is a DJ at RadioPilipinas.





BANGON PILIPINAS (THE YOLANDA PROJECT VOLUME 1) - Various Indie Artists


Indiepinoy released an album compilation project featuring various independent artists in support of the survivors of typhoon Haiyan. 




LOST OUR WAY - Chris Lister



Singer- songwriter Chris Lister is based in Singapore. The Philippines is very close to his heart as his wife and daughter are Filipinos. Help raise funds through this song here.

AHON PILIPINAS - Pagadian Artists Unite


Composed and performed by the united artists of Pagadian City for the victims of typhoon Haiyan.




NEVER GIVE UP

An original theme song written and created for the "Never Give Up" Social Movement, in support of the people affected by Super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan). They're asking for suggestions on which celebrity we want to perform the final version to be purchased on iTunes.




SECOND HAND - Amanda Bloom


UNICEF song for Haiyan. Written and performed by Amanda Bloom, all downloads go to Unicef Philippines relief effort.




FALL ASLEEP - Jars of Clay

Jars of Clay's single Fall Asleep from the album Inland will be donated as relief effort for typhoon Haiyan. All proceeds from the single will be of support to Red Cross.




TYPHOON HAIYAN TRIBUTE MUSIC VIDEO

Danielle Marie released the single This Life on iTunes as relief for the typhoon Haiyan. All proceeds will go for charity. Help and purchase song here.

Composed and performed by Mel Libre dedicated to typhoon Haiyan.




YOLANDA'S HOPE - Evangeline


Music by Flame and lyrics by Marie Claire. She wrote the song in support of those who lost their loved ones caused by typhoon Haiyan. Visit their website www.rightwaymission.com.

Music video was directed and edited by Lian Fumess and was submitted to Radio Rebel TV.




IT CAN ONLY GET BETTER - 5 Singaporean Artists


Five Singaporean artists (Iris Judotter, Grace Huang, Vanessa Fernandez, Aarika Lee and Kevin Lester) got together to record an original song as aid for the typhoon Haiyan.



SONGWRITERS FOR TYPHOON HAIYAN SURVIVORS


The World's largest USA Songwriting Competition launched a campaign "Songwriters For Super Typhoon Haiyan" to support relief In the wake of Super Typhoon Haiyan.




LEAD ME HOME - Jessica Sanchez


American Idol finalist and half Pinoy Jessica Sanchez's single Lead Me Home will be used to raise money for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan. Purchase the new single from the upcoming Heartbeat of Home on iTunes. All proceeds will go to the American Red Cross benefitting typhoon Haiyan.

SONGS FOR THE PHILIPPINES - Various International Artists

iTunes didn't stop helping Filipinos greatly affected by typhoon Haiyan that they even released a benefit compilation album as part of their relief efforts. Big names from the international music community are brought together to make this compilation album possible. When I say big names, I am talking about U2, Lady Gaga, Imagine Dragons, Beatles (hell yeah), Beyonce, etc. Those with Filipino descent like Jessica Sanchez, Enrique Iglesias, Apl.de.ap and Bruno Mars also shared their songs to the album. 


Songs for the Philippines is composed of singles from different international artists with a message of hope, faith and compassion. Songs for the Philippines will benefit the Philippine Red Cross, to which all proceeds of the album will be donated.



I am sure there are even more and more music created and produced as tribute to the strongest typhoon in the world. Why not, music has always been part of us Filipinos, that amidst the tragedy and despair we know we can still find the courage to sing happily again.
