The greatness of Filipino songwriters have been recognize once again last Saturday, June 20, at the Meralco Theater for the Philippine Popular Music Festival 2013 (with the message "Your theme, your genre, your song"). 12 composers and their interpreters competed for the 1 million grand prize by being the best new OPM hit!
Philpop 2013 was hosted by OPM president Ogie Alcasid and TV5's Jasmine Curtis- Smith. Some of those who performed were Martin Nievera, Charice Pempengco, The Ryan Cayabyab Singers, The Opera, The Company, etc.
But the main stars of that night were the different genres performed by the interpreters of the 12 talented songwriters. The final entries are being played on radio stations like RX 93.1 and their music videos are shown on TV and web too prior to the finals night.
Among the finalists, it was the entry "Dati" that grabbed the grand prize. The song was composed by the duo Thyro Alfaro and Yumi Lacsamana and performed by Sam Concepcion & Tippy Dos Santos feat. Quest.
"Dati" is a catchy R&B song that taps the hearts of 90's kids like me. It reminds us of our simpler childhood days, and also about reminiscing on a young love. Parcel of memories like "bahay-bahayan", "Marvin at Jolina", "Nintendo" and "Julio at Julia" were even mentioned in the song.
